Our First Steps into the Outermost
We are Outermost Apparel. Let us introduce ourselves and our organic, recyclable and sustainable clothing.

Setting Off. Paddling Out. Beginning the Ascent.

So here we go, after a few months of setting up we thought we should start a blog to introduce us and Outermost Apparel. A way of mapping the journey for us too.

Rather than lament the negative, we wanted to start something positive.

As a seed of an idea by Andy in the summer of 2019, Outermost was conceived as a way to help our environment. Our drop in the ocean of conservation that this planet needs to maintain the wild spaces we respect and enjoy. We always say if everyone did a little, we could make a big difference.

It is a sad fact that such areas of wilderness need to be protected by humans, from humans. Yet rather than lament the negative, we wanted to start something positive.

Andy and Laura have always loved getting outdoors for adventures and to explore. Whether it's on or in the water, through the forests or up mountains, the good vibes they get while immersed in the wild stokes plenty of inspiration and motivation to help protect these precious spaces. So with a passion for getting outdoors for a roam, run, surf or paddle and years of experience as a print designer and illustrator, Andy put some skills to use to design an outdoor inspired collection of t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies where every sale donates to an environmental cause.

The best part of it all - our clothing is made to be re-made!

Once we discovered Teemill on the Isle of Wight, where Laura hail's from and they visit regularly, we saw some potential in our idea. Our goal was to design and sell clothing to help the wild, so obviously we wanted the product itself to have as little negative environmental impact as possible in its making.

The fashion industry is a big global polluter that needs to change it’s system. The use of pesticides in the fields, the toxic dye-house effluent that finds it's way into water systems and the immense waste of over produced fast fashion, of which a truck load ends up burned or in landfill every second, are just a few examples of a system that must take more accountability for its actions. The guys at Teemill are huge advocates for the growth of sustainability and environmental and social awareness in fashion, something we believe in too and that everyone should consider as consumers in the future. So with Teemill already addressing these issues it was an easy call to start working with them.

Their farm in India only grows certified organic cotton without pesticide use

Their factories are powered by renewable energy

Their dye-house effluent is captured, filtered and re used

Clothing is printed here in the UK and only printed to order

Orders are posted direct from printing in recyclable packaging without the use of plastic

And the best part of all - our clothing is made to be re-made! This is circular fashion which we are super stoked to support. No waste, no landfill. Once the clothing is worn out or no longer wanted you can return by freepost to the factory for it to be cut, shred and re-spun for it's new life.

Traceability is important to us, so right from the get go we want customers, friends and followers to know we are setting up as well as we possibly can and to be confident they are getting a worthwhile product which is benefitting the environment from start to finish.

The Horizon is Always Ahead.

So this is us and how we've started our journey. We will keep it short and try to post once a month. We have a lot to share! From the environmental causes we have already begun to help, to new design launches, clothing giveaways and also talking about places we love to explore and those we've yet to discover. By foot, board, kayak or bike.

Our adventure begins into the Outermost, who's along for the ride?

How Outermost helps the Wild by donating to environmental projects from every sale we make.
